To Laugh or to Cry? Ambiguity and Humour in Jason's Graphic Novels

The paper offers a reading of Jason’s use sparsity, seriousness, and reduction as concealment technique that is based on multifaceted ambiguity involving the blending genres, playfully intertextual attitude, surprising emotional depth character story. It discusses connection between humour visual, textual, structural in works, well ambivalence reader’s response, illustrates combination incongruous genres simultaneous employment motifs from children’s literature various genre movies (such science fiction, crime thrillers, heist movies, horrors), explores subverting expectations comic relief by withholding certain parts joke (typically punchline) or inserting an unexpected element psychological depth).
